Songs of Home

Edwin R. Taylor’s Songs of Home, lauded fondly by many as their favorite among his output, is an ever-expanding set of song without words.  If you’re searching for relaxing piano music, nostalgic piano music, best romantic piano music, melodic piano music, classical piano music, piano sheet music, concert piano repertoire, or encores, these Songs of Home might well become a new-found oasis for you.

This evocative opus, begun in 1979 with a folksong, then another folksong, evolved into Songs of Home in the early 1980’s when I wanted to capture the essence and feelings of my family’s version of Schubertiads (in my case, when my parents would invite friends over for some tasty dessert and listening to some of my latest compositions).  Everyone has their own memories of growing up, and my Songs of Home are my own attempt at sharing in music all that the word “home” inspires.  Over the years, I have heard words like “nostalgic,” “thought-provoking,” “poignant,” “reminiscing,” and “comforting” from listeners describing the feelings these songs have generated in them.  I invite you to listen to these Songs of Home, and see if you don’t agree.

Each having been penned as a gift to thank, honor, or remember a personal friend, these Songs most closely rub styles with the likes of the beloved “Danny Boy” or “Annie Laurie.”  They are frequently requested in worship, at funerals, at memorial services, at weddings, as well as in concert, in music appreciation lectures, and at gatherings where quiet personal reflection, contemplation, comfort, and reminiscing have been desired.  As the 20th century’s peerless piano virtuoso, Vladimir Horowitz concluded his fiery and frenetic ‘Return To Carnegie Hall Recital’ in 1965 with the sublimest of encores, Robert Schumann’s Träumerei, I pray that my Songs of Home will offer similar solace and transcendence.
